Kirsten Hassenfeld was born and raised in the suburbs of Albany, New York. She received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1994 and a MFA from the University of Arizona in 1998, both in printmaking. She attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and was a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In 2003-2004 she was in residence at the Smack Mellon Studios in Brooklyn. Hassenfeld's work was included in the exhibition 'Open House: Working in Brooklyn' in 2004.
